2008 TaG Super Series Round 2 - Wet & Wild At Oran Park

The weather may not have been hot but the action was at Round 2 of the TaG Super Series. 56 Drivers braved the conditions with some spectacular races.

Some great prizes were given out through out the day. Restricted Light driver Doug Mapperson won the lucky door prize of a Colour TV with thanks to Pegasus Personnel  www.pegasuspersonnel.com.au . Many other prizes were given out at presentation including CD players & kart accessories.

Results and points for the round are below. Overall series pointscore is HERE (Excel Spreadhseet).

TaG Light

Kristian Lindbom dominated TaG Light. The formula racer had incredible speed throughout the day. Choosing slicks in the second heat was the only blemish on his day. Dion Fischper turned around his misfortunes from the first round into a solid second place also showing good speed throughout the day. David Whitmore carved his way from 9th to pick up the last podium. Drive of the day went Scotty (Longneck) Morrison. Not only was he the first over 40’s driver but finished 4th overall. The ever improving Gordan Zerafa finished fifth & was also the first rookie home.

TaG Heavy

The final of TaG heavy was the race of the day. Torrential rain fell just before the drivers went out creating several rivers in the unpredictable conditions. The lines that had been fast in the heats all changed for the final.

Ian Allen (The Pieman) started from pole in the final after a strong 1st & 2nd in the heats. Hot on his heels was Round 1 winner Mathew Erdmann & series leader Michael Hazelton. From the drop of the flag the field were driving at ten tenths. Erdmann hit the early lead with Pieman & Hazelton pushing hard and adding the pressure. By mid race Erdmann & Pieman had pulled a gap on the rest of the field. Pieman continued to add the pressure right to the last lap where he had a last corner lunge at Erdmann. Erdmann made the switch back on the exit of the turn taking the win by 2 hundredths. Ian Allen (Pieman) finished second and was the first over 40 driver. Michael Hazelton added valuable points to his series campaign with 3rd. 2007 series winner Ian Mallinson charged from 15th to 4th. Mathew Endres had his highest series finish with 5th outright. David Avakin was first Rookie home with 10th outright.

TaG Super Heavy

The Super Sextuplets followed the Heavy class and were also dealt the extreme weather but these big boys sure know how to part a river. Justin Bayliff came from three quarters of a lap down to win the opening race after missing the start and then spinning. The 7Ft 2 freshman seems to love it wet…. Series leader Alan Parkinson was plagued with problems all day retiring before the final. Jason Conolly was the big winner of the day winning Heat 2 and the final. Peter McQueen was bridesmaid in every race but was first of the over 40’s. John Foley took his first podium of the season with 3rd.

TaG Restricted Light

The rain did not dampen the action of the hotly contested TaG Restricted Light with the tightest series points of all the divisions. Alan Austin & Doug Mapperson traded wins at the first round but it was ‘P’ plate driver Mitchell Hewitt & series new comer Scott Johnston who dominated the day. Hewitt won the final & was the first P Plate driver home but Over 40’s driver Scott Johnston took the most points with strong performances in the heats and 2nd in the final. Mapperson's 3rd place was good enough to lift him to equal series leader with 4th placed Alan Austin. Mark Croser rounded out the top 5.
